DIY: Matte Black Mason Jar

Miss Kris Painted Matte Black Mason Jar DIYI know it’s Spring and we’re susposta be all about color and what not, but I’m currently having a very black and white moment. I’m obsessed bouquets full of white flowers and I think the contrast of a black vase really make the arrangement stand out. So chic! Thankfully because of an intense relationship I had last Summer with mason jars, I have a few laying around. With a coat of paint they can easily be transformed and repurposed to use this Spring. This little project is beyond simple. You can complete the look of a room or the theme of a party in just seconds with these painted jars.

For The Makers: Jeweled “Maneater” Bracelet DIY Kit

Miss Kris For the MakersOne day last week I went to my mailbox and was ecstatic to discover that the mailman delivered something else besides a bill. My For The Makers DIY kit had arrived!!! Full of excitement I instantly broke into a happy dance that looked a little something like this.

A while back a friend introduce me to a DIY kit subscription company called For The Makers. DIY kits delivered straight to my doorstep? Obviously, I’m obsessed! I checked out their website and loved what I saw. Carefully crafted and themed DIY collections available for their subscribers. Not into a monthly subscription? Well I also discovered that they had individual projects available to purchase. I love the idea of these single project kits. They are perfect for the DIYer who hates supply shopping and they also make a perfect gift for your crafty friend.

Miss Kris For the Makers SUPPLIESThey have so many fun projects for sale on their site, but this jeweled “Maneater” bracelet caught my eye. The bracelet has a vintage feel (which I love) and the colors of the jewels are bold and beautiful. I couldn’t wait to play! The package came with everything I needed (sans tools) and was very easy and create. It took me about 15 mins to put together my bracelet.

Rodeo Lights Miss KrisIt seems like everyone likes to play dress up during the Holiday season, even Rodeo Drive. I love taking a stroll down Rodeo in Beverly Hills during Christmas time. The street is always decorated with some many twinkling lights and the store fronts are decorated so festively. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! xo

Happy Halloween

As of last Thursday I had absolutely no plans for Halloween. More than likely I was going to be at home sitting in my sweats eating a bag of candy I picked up at Rite Aid and watching Dancing with the Stars. So when my friend called and made the suggestion that we high-tail it to Vegas to join her at Holly Madison’s costume party, I started dusting off my wigs and packing my bags!

Consider this the Halloween DIY challenge… I had less than 24 hours to find a costume. I wanted to be “Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend” Marilyn, but couldn’t find the costume. Instead of making my life easier and grabbing the princess a bag costume I headed on down to my local fabric store and scooped up so much pink fabric that even Barbie would think I’d gone overboard! Enjoy the pics of my no sew Halloween costume. Well almost no sew. I used the same technique I used to make my snakeskin tote, minus the staples.  To make the strapless tube dress I took a strip of fabric, folded it inside out and hand stitched it up the side leaving a 1” seam. To make the oversized bow I used the bow-making technique I showed on E! News, but to make the bow lush and full I put tulle on the inside of the bow so it would hold its shape.

Consider this my 2011 DIY final exam. Make your Halloween costume using at lest 2 techniques from past Glitter ‘N Glue projects…and… go!

JACKPOT!

I love that there was another Marilyn hittin’ the slots too! COME ON BIG MONEY!!

Hugs and Kisses! xoxo

I was too busy taking pictures of myself that I forgot to take a picture with Holly at the party, but if you look closely you can see she was photo bombing my photos (…and by photo bombing I mean minding her own business and enjoying her party!)

Also, a big Halloween hug to all my fabulous Glitterati guys and gals that participated in the faBOOlous DIY series in honor of Halloween. Many of you, like Krys from LA and Amanda, sent me photos of the projects you completed. I really enjoyed all the emails, comments and pictures. You guys are so creative! xo

Happy Halloween!!

DIY Quick Tip Tuesday: The Bangles

Round 2: Because obviously I’ve been gone on vacation too long and forgot how to post videos from Youtube to my blog…

Last week my friend Sydne Summer of Think Thru Fashion.com posted this fun video about stacking bangles. Click here to watch her video in full. I was inspired to make a little video. QUICK TIP TUESDAYS!!!!

PS: I truly hope you guys are enjoying your summer. I had a wonderful trip to Paris. I got some many fun DIY ideas while I was in the fashion capital. I’ll be posting those projects soon. In the meantime, check out my personal blog Kristen With An E to check out photos and experiences from my trip (and other stuff too)! XOXOXOO

DIY: Egyptian Inspired Feathered Bib Necklace

Bib necklaces are all the rage and one of my favorite actress, from one of my favorite movies did it best! Elizabeth Taylor’s wardrobe in the movie Cleopatra was sick (Mom, since I know you’re reading this post, sick is a good thing!). I love when Cleopatra comes on Turner Movie Classics. I love it so much and feel incline to watch all 20 hours of it! Yes, I’m exaggerating but it’s a rather lengthy movie.

Kelly Osbourne in Amrapali/ Heidi Klum in Lorraine Schwartz/ Eva Mendes in Van Cleef & Arpels

In Ancient Egypt, Egyptians wore solid gold bib necklaces as a way to show royalty and wealth. Today, celebrities wear bib necklaces on the red carpet as a way to accessories their decolletage. Either way, bib necklaces are show stoppers and can really make a statement. With this easy one step DIY project you too can create a bib necklace that makes everyone stop and stare.

Materials: Necklace, Feathers, Glue Gun, Scissors

This project is very, very simple. First, line up the feathers with the back of the necklace and cut off any additional feathers. Then, simply glue the feathers to the back of your necklace.

You can use any color feathers and it looks great paired with a blouse, tank top or even a dress. Be Inspired!

DIY: Chandelier Earrings

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday season. Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. I spent the past month is Texas with my family (as you noticed I haven’t posted in nearly a month). Their house is always decorated so wonderfully and their kitchen always smells of delicious food during the holidays. It’s just a great time to relax and reflect at the end of the year.

I hate to see the holidays go and I always get a little sad while taking down the Christmas tree. I guess like they say, “All good things must come to an end.” However, while packing away the decorations my creative mind started working overtime. I mentioned to my Mom that some of her Christmas ornaments would make fantastic statement earrings (my favorite accessory staple of all time).

I stole the materials for this weeks DIY project right off my parents Christmas Tree.

But on a recent craft store outing to Hobby Lobby I noticed all of their Christmas decorations were on sale. Finding a cheap ornament at your local craft store shouldn’t be hard to do since they’re trying to get rid of their stock. Of course use discretion when you’re picking out an ornament. Get the one that looks like it could be an earring. I’d stay away from the big red ball because that’s obviously a Christmas ornament! They ones made to look like icicles usually work best.

The only other material you’ll need for this project are kidney earring findings. You can usually find them at your local craft store on the jewelry making isle. The great thing about the ornaments is that they usually already have a loop on the end of them so they can hang by hook or string on your tree. You can use the loop that’s already on the ornament and slide it directly onto the earring finding. No wires. No plyers.

WEAR ‘EM! I’m excited about these earrings because I get to take a little bit of the of the holidays with me through the rest of the year! I wore them to my Aunt and Uncles New Year dessert party and no know knew they were ornaments off my parent’s tree.

DIY: Lanvin Inspired Embellished Wide Belt

I love Lanvin’s embellished belt! It’s the perfect accent for my fav little black dress, but it retails for $690. YIKES! This weeks tutorial is definitely dedicated to girls who live like me  – champagne taste, on a beer budget. The total cost of this project…$21!

*I did a video this week instead of photos. Let me know what you think. It’s my first one so be nice, but I may start to sprinkle them in more often!

Chanel inspired brooch for less than $4

I’m beyond excited! Me and my DIY skills were featured today on Dollar Store Crafts. I’m was so honored to have been asked to guest post, but was a little nervous because they require that you use materials from the dollar store in your project. Yes, the $1 store!!!!!!!!

I was inspired by the Coco Chanel coin and in honor of her 127th birthday, I created a brooch. Click here to view the entire project check on the Dollar Store Crafts website. I spent a total of $3.14 on this project! Thanks again for inviting me to guest post.

Enjoying the view

I noticed these while waiting for my car at the valet on Rodeo Drive. Lovely colors! Of course they have nice flowers at the valet on Rodeo. Is this what Whoopi means when she says “take a little time to enjoy the view”?

Happy Birthday, Ms. Monroe!

Today June 1st (even tho this post on June 2…I’m 20 mins late) Marylin would have celebrated her 84th birthday. Cheers to a woman that is a true Vainglorious icon. She wanted the world to remember her so she bleach her hair blond, changed her name and put on a pair of heels and now the world will never forget. Google the phrase “Marilyn Monroe tattoo” and see how many people have her face tattooed on their bodies. Forever Vainglorious! Happy Birthday, Ms. Monroe!
