GIVEAWAY: On the 12th Day…Georgetown Cupcakes!!

Kristen4-068Here we are… day 12! Over the past 12 days I’ve played Miss Kris Kringle and given away a carefully cultivated list of things that help me function in my day to day life like coffee machine, fierce shoes, nice jewelry and many other Kristen approved goodies. Today we end not so much a physical thing but with my daily mantra… TREAT YO SELF! (Click here for the full “Treat Yo Self” explanation.)

On the show Parks and Recs, “Treat Yo Self” was an annual thing, but I believe you should “Treat Yo Self” daily. Treating yo self doesn’t always have to be an expensive thing. Sometimes you can treat yo self by waking up half an hour early to quietly sit in your reading chair and truly enjoy your morning up of coffee or spending an extra minute outside your office building soaking in the sunshine before heading back to your desk. We get so caught up in our day to day that sometimes we just forget to stop, take a second and enjoy the small treats life has to offer.

I’m so excited today Georgetown Cupcake is giving one winner the opportunity to treat themselves (and family and friends should you decide to share) to some yummy cupcakes. Georgetown cakes are some of my absolute favorites and they ship nationwide (USA). To enter this giveaway simply type the phrase “Georgetown Cupcake” in the comment section below. The contest ends Thursday, December 12th at 11:59pm pst when, with the help of a fancy number generating system, a random number will be selected. If your “Georgetown Cupcake” falls in the comment box that corresponds with the selected number…you win a $55 gift card to Georgetown Cupcake. THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED. I WILL POST THE WINNING NUMBER SHORTLY.

I’m rather obsessed with my extensive collection of fancy and frilly loungewear.  When I was younger I would wear my cheer shorts and a t-shirt to bed, but when I started working on my blog full time from home, and thus spending a ridiculous amount of time at home in my PJs, I realized it was time to invest in some chic loungewear (a la Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls here) that would hopefully inspired a little creativity.

Every lady should have a drawer of cozy intimates which is why I’m so excited to be giving away a $150 gift certificate to Largo Drive. To enter simply type the phrase “Largo Drive” in the comment section below. This giveaway ends Sunday, December 1st at 11:59pm pst when, with the help of a fancy number generating system, a random number will be selected. Vision Boards + Scotland + Your Chance To Win, Obviously!

In this weeks episode of Kristen, obviously! I’m giving you the rundown on my updated vision board.  Lately, I’ve really had the urge to travel and to get out and explore the world. I  added a few images to my board that encourage travel, new adventures and a few other things I deem important as I approach my 30th.

There was barely enough time for the glue to dry on my vision board when the good folks over at Hilton Hotels asked me to join them on a trip to Scotland! Scotland?!?!… Home of Gerard Butler, Sean Connery and Ewan McGregor and the Scottish Terrier?!?!? Scotland, the Summer home of Queen Elizabeth?!?!? Travel to a country whose National Animal is the unicorn??!?! Obviously yes! I’ve been to London before but never ventured to the Northern part of the United Kingdom. I’m in desperate need of a little Fall/ Winter DIY inspiration so the timing could not be better. And might I add, it’s the perfect way to celebrate my 30th!

I leave for Scotland this Thursday (on my actual birthday) and will spend the weekend taking in the signs and sounds of the Scottish capital of Edinburgh courtesy of Hilton HHonors.. whoop, whoop HBD to me!

Hilton is really pulling out all the stops this Summer in honor of their Hilton HHonors program. They’ve launched a the Great Getaway Giveaway campaign, offering members the chance to win a vacation now through August 4. THAT MEANS YOU!

Click here to vote for your favorite destination in the Food & Wine category (obviously I’m partial to New Orleans), enter your email address and press the “enter now” button. A winner will be chosen in August for a trip to the city that received the most votes! Fingers crossed it’s you xx xx

Please excuse our regularly scheduled DIY programming as I take this opportunity to explore life and turn 30 in the most fab way possible! You can follow my Eat, Pray, Love sequel via Instagram (here). I plan on taking you guys along with me on this adventure. I promise to take lots of photos and to come back with some inspiration for some fab Fall #DIY projects. I’m already seeing a lot of red plaid in my future a la McQueen’s Scottish collection!

Glitter N Glue DIY Swarovski Crystal Cuff GLUEThen apply a drop of glue to a toothpick and use the toothpick to apply the glue to the back of the crystal. Glitter N Glue DIY Swarovski Crystal Cuff SETAdd the crystals on the cuff. If needed, use a pair of tweezers to carefully place the crystals.

Glitter N Glue DIY Swarovski Crystal Cuff DETAILYour design may change as you continue to apply your crystals, but my suggestion is to start with the center crystal and work your way out. At the end of the day the design is totally up to you. Have fun with it and always remember the more bling the better!!

GIVEAWAY: Martha Stewart Crafts DIY Clay Branch Necklace In Honor Of National Craft Month

Branch necklaces via Aurélie Bidermann, Max & Chloe and Max & Chloe

Did you know this month was Nation Craft Month?I know! I was thinking the same thing…Why isn’t this a National Holiday? Why didn’t we shut down schools and close banks and the post office in honor of National Craft Month? Well don’t worry, I’ve done my part in celebrating the month that honors creativity. I’ve been a very busy and crafty DIY bee all month.

Those of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook know I attended the Craft and Hobby Association Convention earlier in the year. I love attending CHA because it’s the one time of the year I get to see all the new DIY products that will soon hit the shelves. I always leave the convention inspired and full of DIY ideas. This DIY tutorial is inspired by products I discovered at this years Craft and Hobby Association Convention.

Martha Stewart Crafts always delivers some new fun and innovative products. They recently developed a crafter’s clay that caught my attention. The Martha Stewart Craft’s Clay comes in an easy to use starter kit with 5 different color clay and all the materials you need to help you get started. They even provide 4 silicone molds to help you create shapes. I used the branch mold to create my Max & Chloe inspired branch necklace.

Allow the clay to dry in the open air at least 24 hours. While the clay is drying crate holes with toothpicks so that you can add the chain to the branch once it’s dry.

Another discovery from CHA was the Martha Stewart Liquid Gilding Paint (manufactured by Plaid Crafts) . Seriously, I’m so obsessed! You guys know how much I love metallics and with metallics being such a big trend in fashion this season this product is the perfect addition to your DIY kit.

Think how easy my past metallic DIY projects like the gold cap toe pumps and the iphone case will be with the gold liquid gilding paint.

I know it’s hard to see the necklace in this picture, but I wanted a chance to show off my $750 Milly dress I picked up on sale from Bloomy’s for $150! Gotta love a good sale!!!

Here’s a better shot of my clay necklace ;-) I simple added jump rings through the holes I created in the branch and connected the chain to it. Literally just that simple! Add lobster claws clasp to the back of the necklace for a simple closure.

Now you know a National Craft Month celebration isn’t a party without a giveaway, right?!?!?!?! Well the lovely folks at Plaid Crafts would like to give one luck Glitter ‘N Glue the liquid gilding paint in gold… silver… AND rose gold! That’s right! You can win a supply of the Martha Stewart Liquid Gilding paint in every color they make. To enter simply leave a note in the comment section below letting me know:

DIY: Embellished Headband + Goody Hair Accessories Giveaway

Last month my friend Jenni from I Spy DIY was in town to host a DIY party at the Soho House LA. We had such a fantastic time making bold fashion accessories. Her technique for making tribal necklaces gave me the inspiration for embellishing headbands. I think embellished headbands make the perfect gift for that girlie girl on your Holiday list…

Materials: Headbands, Rhinestones, Embroidery Thread, Glue

Glue your rhinestones to your headband. Use a healthy amount of glue. The access glue with help in making sure the thread stays put nicely on the headband.

Dab a small amount of glue on one of the the inside ends of your headband. Start wrapping your thread around the end. The glue will secure it in place.

Continue to wrap your thread around the headband, weaving it in and out of the rhinestones. Should you decide to change colors, simply knot the two threads together. Be sure that the knot is hidden underneath the headband.

Voila!

From far away this headband reminds me of one of my fancy rhinestone covered friendship bracelets. I love this project because it really allows you be be creative. You can pick different colors and come up with your own pattern. It’s a fun gift for the right girl and it’s also lots of fun to make. As of today, I’ve given you 11 new DIY projects that hopefully inspired you to make some fun gifts. And with only one more day left to this gift guide I’d love to know…

Question: Have you gotten/made a gift for everyone on your list?

Have you finished all your shopping? Or do you still have more gifts to get? I’d love to know. Leave your answers below. Contest ends tonight at 9pm pst and with the help of a fancy number generating system, a number will be selected. If your answer falls in the comment box that corresponds with the selected number…you win a collection of hair accessories from Goody! Don’t worry if you don’t win today… there’s always tomorrow! Only one more new DIY project, a one more prize and one more chance to win.

Happy Holidays!

UPDATE: 14 was the randomly selected number!

DIY: Gold Leaf Vanity Set + Gold Leave Starter Kit Giveaway

I’ve developed a slight obsession with the gold leafing process ever since I leafed my iPhone case. This week alone I applied the gold goodness to  2 picture frames, a vase, a pair of earrings and a wood bangle. It’s such an easy way to transform something dull into something ahhhhhmazing! I thought a gold vanity set is the perfect gift for all my beauty lovers out there. My Great Grandmother had a gold vanity set that sat on her dresser and I always admired it.

Materials: Gold Leaf Starter Kit (which includes: gold foil, adhesive and sealer), Mirror, Comb, Brush

Step 1: Apply the adhesive and let it dry for about 30 minutes

Step 2: Apply gold foil and use a brush to remove the extra

Step 3: Apply the sealer to protect and set the foil

And there you have it…3 steps to fabulous! Such a fun idea I just had to show you twice. The Midas touch vanity set is the perfect gift for all the beauty lovers on your list. I have a few beauty blogger friends that should expect to see these in their stockings with a note attached that says “Happy Holidays! Love, Kristen” Which leads me to the question of the day…

Question: What’s your favorite beauty product?

There’s a tie for my two fave products… 1. the Proactiv makeup remover cloths (they’re like magic) and 2. Rimmel London’s Max Volume Lash Mascara. DIY: Dyed Infinity Scarf + Rit Dye Giveaway

Awwww the infinity scarf. I only recently discovered the magical powers of the infinity scarf. I love these things and think they’d make a great gift. It’s inevitable that every year my Mom will end up giving someone a scarf. I hope this year she makes it fancy like this…

Materials: White T-shirt, Rit Dye, Rubber bands

Cut the bottom foot and a half off of the t-shirt to make your infinity scarf. Here’s a tip… Buy a size 2XL or 3XL so your scarf will be longer. Pre-wash your shirt before you dye it.

Prep your tee by rolling it up and putting rubber bands around it.

Be creative and pick whatever colors excite you. I used navy and dipped both ends in the dye. Remember the longer you let your fabric sit in the dye, the darker the color will be.

I then dipped my middle section into a mixture of violet dye

Once you’re finished with the dying process, cut off the rubber bands and unroll your fabric to reveal your pattern

I love how the dye sort of bleeds into the un-dyed section.

The infinity scarf kept me warm as I sat by the fire and got an early jump on wrapping gifts. May I just add how proud I am that it’s December 8th and I’m already wrapping gifts. I have been known to wrap a gift on Christmas morning minutes before the family gathers around the tree. So happy to be ahead of the game this year.

My scarf was inspired by the fab decor in the new Tory Burch flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York. I love all the different shades of purple and the tie dye effect used on those ottomans. Tory always uses bold colors in her designs. So I’d love to know…

Question: What’s your favorite color?

When I was a little girl purple was my favorite color. I wanted everything I owned to be purple!!! Now I’d have to say I’m a huge fan of green because it looks the best on me. I’d love to hear what your favorite color is. Leave your answers below. Contest ends tonight at 9pm pst and with the help of a fancy number generating system, a number will be selected. If your answer falls in the comment box that corresponds with the selected number…you win selection of different colored dyes from Rit Dye! Don’t worry if you don’t win today because we’re playing this game all week! Each day is a new DIY project, a new prize and a new chance to win.

DIY: Glitter Nail Polish + Big-Ass Book Of Crafts 2 Giveaway

First let me start off by apologizing to my 70-year-old Aunt DeDe. She’s gets an email every time I post something and I’m sure she “clutching the pearls” right now because the word “Ass” just popped up in her inbox. So sorry Aunt DeDe, but it’s the name of a book. Not my book, but abook written by my super crafty friend Mark Montano. Mark has written many craft books. I’m a fan of them all, but Big-Ass Book Of Crafts 2 had one particularly genius project that I’m absolutely in love with. Glittery nails are all the rage right now which makes this project so timely. DIY: Ornament Earrings + Michael’s Craft Store Gift Card

Every girl loves receiving jewelry as a gift. For those of you who have been following my blog for a while I’m sure you remember when I did this post last season. Well I absolutely love those earrings and I have a few girls on my list they’d make great gifts for this year.

Materials: Tree Ornaments, Jump Rings, Buttons, Earring Post, E 6000, Nippers, Plyers

I think I have a button obsession

Use the nippers to remove the shanks form the back of the buttons. Use a dab of E6000 to add the earring post to the back of the button.

Since my button was gold, I changed the jump rings in the ornaments from silver to gold. I wanted them to match!

Viola! Statement earrings! No one would have ever guessed they use to be Christmas ornaments. My friend Sydne (read her blog Think Thru Fashion)  is all about fashion staples. She says that my fashion staple is a statement pair of earrings. I guess I’d have to agree with her. My everyday earring is always a pair of oversized hoops (al la Jennifer Lopez aka J.Lo aka Jenny from the block) and when I’m all dressed up for evening I’m usually wearing an oversize pair of earrings with bling on them. I guess it’s my thing. So I’m wondering…

Question: What’s your statement? What signature piece of clothing would your friends say you’re known for?

Maybe it’s a watch? Or maybe you’re the Queen of ballet flats? Or maybe you own 808 pairs of jeans? Leave your answer below. Contest ends tonight at 9pm pst and with the help of a fancy number generating system, a number will be selected. If your answer falls in the comment box that corresponds with the selected number…you win a $25 gift card to Michael’s Craft Store! Don’t worry if you don’t win today because we’re playing this game all week! Each day is a new DIY project, a new prize and a new chance to win. Trust me this project is so fun you might end up keeping it for yourself!

UPDATE: 9 was the randomly selected number!
